Broil King 94974 Crown 70 Liquid-Propane Gas Grill Review
June 19, 2010 by admin
The Broil King Crown 70 measures a massive 58 x 22 x 50 inches (height x depth x width), making it one of the biggest gas grills a barbecue fanatic can hope to use. Accompanied with a 44,000 BTU burner that heats a 400 square inch cooking area to 600 degrees Fahrenheit within minutes, the Broil King also boasts a 15,000 BTU rear rotisserie burner with a heavy-duty motor. Together with a premium rotisserie kit, this grill is designed to roast turkeys, grill enough steaks to feed a hungry mob and keep buns and cooked food warm on a 235 square inch secondary cooking area.
Authentic Barbecue Flavor Guaranteed
Like all good grills, the Broil King Crown 70 features porcelain-enameled cast iron cooking grids for efficient cooking. The grids retain heat extensively for fast cooking and are very easy to clean. The manufacturer's stainless steel Flav-R-Wave system ensures that drippings are vaporized instantly, bestowing the smoky flavor of authentic barbecue to the food while reducing flare-ups.
Starting up the grill is simple thanks to the Sure-Lite ignition system, and accurate temperature readings are possible with a thermometer with an internal probe. Adjustable burner valves also ensure precise temperature control, while the Therma-Cast aluminum oven guarantees exceptional convection cooking.
Rotisserie Feature Performs Admirably
It is difficult to find an unfavorable review of the Broil King, as the grill lives up to the manufacturer's promises. The rotisserie function, in particular, roasted 6 lbs. of turkey breast, and leg of lamb with no problem to tender, juicy perfection. The height of the oven is a thoughtful feature that allows for better clearance of food on the rotisserie and efficient convection cooking.
The 44,000 BTU burners won many fans thanks to the ability to heat the entire cooking surface to 600 degrees Fahrenheit within 10 minutes, providing excellent searing/charring abilities. Heating of the cooking area was even, and the complete absence of hot spots meant that the whole 400 square inches could be used for quick cooking. The adjustable burner valves also allowed for the most delicate temperature controls, allowing the cook to turn the heat down low to enable long, slow cooking.
Convenient Storage Options and Sturdy Construction
Cooks were also enamored of the convenience afforded by the fold down side tables. Built-in tool hooks and condiment bins were thoughtful features of the sturdy Perma-Mold shelves. Although its large size is intimidating, the grill is easy to assemble, and many cooks found the parking brakes on the front wheels a useful addition.
Rotisserie Knob Located Too Closely To Burner Knobs
Despite the overall glowing opinions, one review thought that the gas knob for the rotisserie was located too close to the other two burner knobs. This becomes an issue when a cook only wants to use the grill but switches on the rotisserie instead, and only realizes his or her mistake when he or she smells gas while attempting the electric start ignition.
